Hawaii Cruises

Inter-island cruises
Overview

Why Hawaii?

Hawaii cruises split into two categories. Norwegian's Pride of America is the only US-flagged cruise ship sailing exclusively between the Hawaiian Islands year-round — 7-night round-trip from Honolulu, hitting Maui (2 nights) + Big Island (2 nights) + Kauai (1 night overnight).

The alternative: positioning cruises from California/BC. 15-night San Francisco → Hawaii → San Francisco, or one-way 10-night LA → Honolulu. More sea days, cheaper per night, but less Hawaii time.

Pride of America's US-flagging means it's more expensive than foreign-flagged competitors (Jones Act compliance). But it's the only way to do Hawaii island-hopping by cruise ship without a Mexican port detour.

How to plan it

  1. Pride of America from Honolulu is the pure inter-island option — no Mexican port required
  2. Positioning cruises are cheaper per day but fewer Hawaii days
  3. Overnight in Kauai (Pride of America) is the highlight for beach-day planning
  4. Pearl Harbor visit — book pre-cruise (or post-cruise) in Honolulu, not as a ship excursion
