The Eiffel Tower has three operating levels. Most first-time visitors make the mistake of buying the cheaper Level-2 ticket, then getting to the top of the second elevator and realizing the summit is the view they actually wanted. Buy the summit ticket. Full stop.
The skip-the-line version matters more here than at almost any other Paris attraction. In July and August, the walk-up queue for tickets at ground level reaches 120 minutes, and that is before the second queue for the elevator itself. Priority access collapses the first queue entirely and shortens the second one. Net time saved: easily 90 minutes on a summer day.
Sunset slots are the best photos but sell out 7–14 days ahead in peak season. If sunset is sold out when you check, the next-best slot is about 45 minutes before sunset — still gold-hour, much easier to book. The top is also considerably colder than ground level: bring a light jacket regardless of season. The Level-1 glass floor is a quick novelty; do it on the way down, not up, so you don't waste the summit timing slot.
