What to Buy

Standard trip: EKTA Standard is fine for a 1-week resort vacation - cancellation cover for $5k trip and $100k medical is plenty unless you have a high-cost trip.

Adventure trip: Buy Premium and add the Adventure Sports rider. Skiing, scuba, motorbike rentals, and paragliding are NOT covered by default policies on any provider.

4+ trips a year: Annual multi-trip pays for itself by trip 4. Most fly-anywhere business travelers hit ROI in March.

Cruise: Buy cruise-specific coverage - regular trip insurance often excludes onboard medical and missed-port-call expenses.

Schengen visa: EU consulates require €30k medical coverage to issue a tourist visa. EKTA's Schengen policy is the cheapest compliant option.

FAQ

Common Questions

Does my credit card cover this already?+
Premium cards (Chase Sapphire, Amex Platinum) cover trip cancellation if you booked the trip on the card and a covered reason occurs (illness, severe weather, jury duty). They do NOT cover overseas medical emergencies. You still need a real medical policy.
Is Cancel For Any Reason worth it?+
CFAR adds 40-50% to the premium and refunds 50-75% (not 100%). Worth it for nonrefundable trips $3k+ where you have a real chance of cancelling for non-covered reasons (work, family logistics).
Pre-existing conditions?+
Most policies exclude pre-existing conditions unless you buy within 14-21 days of your first trip deposit. EKTA Premium offers a pre-existing waiver if purchased early.
How are claims paid?+
Reimbursement-style for most things (you pay, submit receipts, get repaid in 2-4 weeks). For large medical events, EKTA pays the hospital directly via 24/7 assistance hotline.
